PHOENIX – The FBI has issued an alert, but it’s not about a terrorist or drug lord, but about a Barbie doll – a doll you may be thinking about buying this Christmas.
So what’s the problem?
The Barbie doll has a video camera inside it and agents are worried it could be used by pedophiles.
Some are concerned that the doll and the videos could be used for all the wrong reasons.
“It’s a neat way to edit and how to make movies, but the problem becomes where that video ends up,” says Enough is Enough’s Donna Rice Hughes. “They can not only see your child making a movie, but if the child forgets to turn the video off..maybe they take Barbie to the bathroom or bathtub.”
The FBI’s Jenny Shearer said “There have been no reported incidents of this doll being used as anything other thann as intended..the alert’s intent was to ensure law enforcement agencies were aware that the doll..could contain evidence.”
Statement from Mattel, Inc.:
“Mattel products are designed with children and their best interests in mind. Many of Mattel’s employees are parents themselves and we understand the importance of child safety.”
